Gingerly Sauced Pears

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons ghee
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • β…› teaspoon mineral-rich salt
  • β…› teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 large pears, cored and sliced or cubed (optional topping)
  • 1 Tablespoon real maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a cast iron or heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine all ingredients except pears. Cook over medium heat until ghee is melted and spices mix – about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add pears and stir, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook until sauce thickens slightly and pears are tender, about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat. If desired, drizzle maple syrup over the top.
