Vedic chanting is the practice of
reciting verses from the Vedas,
the ancient spiritual texts of India.
These devotional poems or prayers were revealed to ancient yogis while in deep meditation, and they show us how to live in alignment with natural law or divine order.
Practitioners of many different faiths and religions find value in chanting Veda. In addition to the meditative benefits, chanting improves focus, self-confidence, and a feeling of connection.
Unlike kirtan or free-form singing, Vedic chanting adheres to precise guidelines of pronunciation and rhythm, which has preserved the exact form for thousands of years.
In addition to the words, each Veda mantra includes a specific melody, meter, and phonetics. When chanted precisely, it instills the chant with a resonance and power that is captivating.

How the Course Works...
Structure of Class
Each class will include teaching on the Vedas including historical context, logistics of chanting practice, and the meaning of a specific mantra, or verse. Every week we will engage the traditional method of adhyayanam (“listen and repeat”) to learn a new mantra and to practice what we have already learned.
Volunteering in Class
After being introduced to the chant and practicing as a group, students can volunteer to practice a short segment aloud and receive individual feedback. By listening to each other, you will refine your hearing and ability to duplicate the desired sounds. No one will be put on the spot, although you will be encouraged to try it!
Personal Practice & Individual Feedback
Between classes, you are invited to practice and then submit an audio recording of yourself to receive private feedback from the instructor. A total of 6 optional homework assignments will be given, one per week. Practicing at home is how you will come to KNOW each chant, and how it will eventually speak to you personally.
